William Joseph Mnichowski

September 26, 1956 — July 15, 2021

William (Bill) Joseph Mnichowski 64 of Fallon, Nevada and formerly of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Thursday morning July 15th, 2021 with his sister & brothers by his side at the Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada after losing his battle to cancer. Bill was born on September 26th 1956 in South Bend, Indiana to the late William & Barbara (Biedess) Mnichowski and was preceded in death by his step daughter Kendall Gorder. Bill graduated from Washington High School in 1975. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), the USS Carl Vincent (CVN-70) and the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) retiring after serving twenty plus years. 

 

On May 8th 1992 in Bremerton, Washington Bill married the Love of his Life Cheryl (Dame) Mnichowski who survived to cherish Bill’s memory in Fallon, Nevada along with his Stepdaughter Jamie Gorder, Step Grandson Cody Gorder also of Fallon, Nevada; and stepson Stephen Swanson of Bremerton, WA. 

Also surviving to cherish Bill’s memory are his Sister, Barbara (Mnichowski) Gray of Lenexa,KS; brothers, Chris (Linda) Mnichowski of Bucyrus, KS; David Mnichowski of South Bend, IN; Thomas (Pamela) Minchowski also of South Bend, IN; eight Nieces, LeeAnn, Emily, Krista, Brittany Ann, Mallory, Helena, Holly & Hannah; two Nephews, Tommy & Jacob; 5 Great Nieces, Mia, Neveah, Naylah, Presley & Aunalea; and 4 Great Nephews, Alan, Jack, Noah and Uriah. 

Bill was a soft spoken & gentle man who served his community and was loved by all who knew him.

He was very proud to be known as “Big Brother Bill” to All his Family.  Bill had a passion for fishing throughout his entire life whether it be with his Dad, brothers or friends. He also loved & took great care of his pets. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished in our hearts. 

A Special thanks to all the caring staff on the 6th floor Intensive Care & Hospice Unit at the Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada who made Bill as comfortable as they possibly could. 

A Funeral Service/Military Burial with Full Naval Honors for ABH 1 William J. Mnichowski, USN will be held  at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada at 11:30AM on Friday August 27th 2021.
