Shirley Huddy Hull Aguirre, age 91, passed peacefully in her home on April 2, 2025.
Shirley was born on August 6, 1933, in Elko, NV, the daughter of Alfred and Mildred Huddy.
Sadly, her father Alfred passed away just 2 days after her birth. When Shirley was 2 years old, her mother, Mildred, married Cary Hull. Shirley grew up alongside her older brother Jack Hull in Elko, Winnemucca, and Lamoille. She reminisced about her younger days when her Godparents, Dale and Ruth Bell, introduced her to Jesus and that she was subsequently baptized with the Bell’s daughters at the Presbyterian Church on Idaho St. Shirley's dedication to hard work began at the age of 16 when she managed the family-owned Spur drive-in, situated across the street from the Ranch Inn. She graduated from Elko High School in 1951.
In 1952, Shirley attended one year of college at the University of Utah, her father’s alma mater, until funding ran out and she had to return to Elko. She worked at various places in Elko, ranging from the law offices of Leo Puccinelli, the Elko High School, Reinhart’s, and later the Golden Rule, to name a few.
In 1957, Shirley married Henry “Hank” Aguirre, and the couple made their home in Reno. Shirley began a long and dedicated career at Security National Bank, where she worked for well over 30 years. She was known for exceptional customer service and generosity.
In 1985, she married Larry Baillargeon and in 1992 she began a second career at IPFS, a commercial finance company, as a Sales Executive. She earned several awards, including the prestigious NIIA Affiliate of the Year award two years in a row in 2010 and 2011. She was best known for her incredible work ethics and superior customer service that was given to all her clients. Shirley was loved by all, and was famous for her weekly visits, sometimes with her husband Larry, in which they would deliver boxes of donuts or other treats to insurance agencies to thank them for their business.
Shirley retired in December 2019 at the young age of 86 but never lost contact with those she had developed relationships with through all the years of blending business into lifelong friendships.
Her elegance and impeccable style were admired by all. Her friends fondly remember her being dressed to the “nines” every day.
She deeply missed the love of her life, Larry Baillargeon when he passed on December 3, 2023. Her many cats over the years brought great joy to her, and most recently, Millie was her dearest companion.
Shirley was deeply grateful to her dear friends, neighbors, and family members whose friendship and care meant a great deal to her. She was also very appreciative of the compassionate care she received from several caregivers over the past year and a half.
Shirley's legacy of grace, dedication, and warmth will be remembered by all who knew her.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Cary and Mildred and her older brother Jack. She is survived by Jack’s daughter and son and her beloved cat Millie.
At Shirley’s request, there will not be a celebration of life service. Her final resting place will be in her hometown of Elko with her mother and father. Donations in her memory can be made to the Northeastern Nevada Museum, 1515 Idaho St, Elko NV www.museumelko.org/
