Obituary

Kathryn RoJean Dugan , affectionately known as "Kat" or "Kathy," passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Reno, Nevada, at the age of 69.

Kat was born on January 25, 1956, in Pasadena, California, the daughter of RoJean Shultz and the late Russell Moss. She spent most of her early years in Southern California where she fell in love with the Ocean and her books. She continued her journey by moving to the Bay Area and then ultimately making her final home in Reno, NV.

Kat was united in marriage with her beloved husband, Theodore Dugan, and together they built a life rooted in deep love and family.

Kat possessed an infectious smile and a warmth that truly radiated off of her, making everyone around her feel loved and welcome. She had a wonderful array of passions, including "playing in the dirt"—gardening and tending to plants—and indulging her mechanical curiosity by fixing things with the help of YouTube tutorials. She loved attending the annual Great Reno Balloon Races and family reunions, and was a gifted arts and crafter who could always be found tinkering on something being created for somebody somewhere. Kat spent lots of time with her beloved kitties where she trained them with treats and truly enjoyed her time with them.

Above all, Kat absolutely loved babies and cherished every moment she could spend with her grandchildren and the newest members of her family. She was always the first to completely accept new family members and ensure they felt her love. A true music lover, she adored attending musical events, with Air Supply being her all-time favorite band. Her home was a testament to her vibrant life and adventures, featuring photographs that made visitors think she was a true Rockstar who had met all the famous people.

Kat is survived by her loving husband, Theodore Dugan, and their three devoted daughters: Brandi (Scott) Thompson, Heather (James Duffy) Dugan, and Molly (Nick Riley) Weaver. She was the adored "Nana Kat" to nine grandchildren: Drew, Kyndra, and Trytan Thompson; Xander Dugan and Peyton Hilderbran; Jackson and Austin Weaver; Aurora Duffy; and Nixon Riley. She is survived by her mother, RoJean Shultz, and her brother, Randall Moss, as well as many extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Kat will be held on her birthday, January 25, 2026. Additional details regarding the service location and time will be shared with family and friends as the date approaches. All who plan to attend are encouraged to save the date for travel and services on this day.
