Janice Lee Helsper

March 31, 1945 — March 25, 2025

Reno, NV

Janice Lee Helsper, age 79, passed away on March 25, 2025. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and social worker, Jan lived a life rooted in service, quiet strength, and deep personal integrity.

Born in Okeene, Oklahoma, Janice was raised in Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated from Wichita Southeast High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, and later received her Master of Social Work from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She earned her LCSW and dedicated her career to the care and support of others, working in foster care, hospice, senior services, and home health.

Jan had a creative and independent spirit. She took great pride in home improvement projects and enjoyed transforming spaces with her own hands. Her home reflected her appreciation for Native American art and culture, with thoughtful touches that honored both beauty and history.

Though private by nature, Jan was deeply loyal to those close to her. She will be remembered for her quiet wisdom, quick wit, and enduring strength.

She is survived by her daughter, Morgan Massie, and son-in-law, Don Massie, of Reno, Nevada; her beloved grandchildren, Jasper and Auralia; and her brother, Les Priebe, of Plano, Texas.

In accordance with her wishes, no public service was held. A private remembrance was held by her family, and her ashes have been placed in the Our Lady of Peace columbarium at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma.
