After high school Ed moved to Bloomfield, IN with his parents and 3 youngest sisters. He was employed by the Bloomfield Jack Factory and was quite proud of the fact he held the record of welding 1,000 pieces of material during a single shift period.

In 1982, Ed realized his dreams and pursued them by enlisting in the United States Army.  While in the army, Ed achieved the rank of Sergeant E5.  He was part of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and received several medals, awards and achievements.  He proudly served his country from 1982-1990 and was honorably discharged after suffering an injury during a paratrooping exercise.

While stationed in Olympia, WA Ed met and married Janet (Frasier) Maskaly in 1986.  They traveled extensively throughout his army career.  After leaving the army, Ed and Janet decided to return to Olympia, WA.

With the knowledge Ed received from his enlistment, he was able to continue his interests in mechanics.  He took pride in his home and loved landscaping, gardening, traveling, diamond art and Zoom calls with his family.  He was an extreme Seahawks fan!  He loved taking trips to Lake Tahoe and especially spending time at his brother Mike’s cabin near Portola, CA.  Ed was also known to enjoy an ale or two with his friends and family.

The family will honor Ed’s final wishes to be cremated and his ashes scattered over the Atlantic Ocean in a private ceremony at a future date.

He will be truly missed by his family and friends and will always have a special place in their hearts.
