Diane G. Buddy

February 11, 1944 — December 3, 2022

Diane Genevieve Buddy, 78, an 18-year resident of Sparks, NV, went to be with her Lord & Savior on the morning of December 3, 2023. Born February 11, 1944, in Royal Oak, Michigan, she is survived by her loving husband of almost 59 years, George L. Buddy; her children, Christina (Steven) Kauffman, Fallon, NV, George (Margaurite) Buddy Jr., Sparks, NV; her grandchildren, Samantha (Travis) Burt, Twain Marsan, Isabella Kauffman, Parker Buddy, Beyonca Buddy and Deacon Buddy; one great grandchild, Cecelia Burt, and her siblings; Paul D. Karris, Hicksville, OH, Carl (Deborah) Harlan, Traverse City, MI, Sheron (Thomas) Auten, South Lyon, MI, Gary (Diane) Harlan, Rochester Hills, MI, and Dana (Kathleen) Harlan, Big Rapids, MI. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Genevieve (Geiger) Harlan, her father Alexander Karris, and by siblings, Forder Karris, Kirby Harlan, Paul (Carol) Harlan, Deborah (Patrick) Blaisdell and Darrell (Darlene) Harlan.
Diane worked as a sales associate at Mervyn's and as a secretary at Diablo Valley College, both in Pleasant Hill, CA. However, her true calling was work where she could use her creative and artistic talents. Together with a business partner, Diane operated a boutique at Main Street Thrift & Collectibles in Martinez, CA, where her great sense of style made the resale of fashionable ladies clothing a successful endeavor. She and her partner also did interior decorating and even traveled to the Chesapeake Bay area to decorate a client's home there. Diane also bought vintage jewelry and either reconditioned it or used parts to create innovative designs which she sold in a friend's beauty salon.
In retirement, Diane and her loving husband enjoyed traveling. The two took trips to the Grand Canyon, Carmel, Hawaii, Niagara Falls, Lake Tahoe, Washington D.C., and Europe. They enjoyed their evenings together, dancing and going to the show.
While she loved to use her creative talents, her real passions were her grandchildren and playing cards. She combined these passions and taught all her grandchildren to play Minnesota and other games. When they spent the night, Diane and the kids played cards well past their bedtimes. When the grandchildren were not around, she regularly played mahjong and bunko with a group of lady friends. The group also got together for dinner and an occasional movie.
Diane was a devout Christian having attended Grace Baptist Church in Birmingham, Michigan in her formative years and Summit Church in Sparks, NV in recent years.
Daughter, Chris, sums in up this way: "Mom was an incredibly strong person who loved her family and valued her friends. She was creative and talented, kind and giving. Everyone loved her cooking, and she played a mean game of cards, while never failing to be a true lady."
