Arlene M. Becker died peacefully June 23, 2026, in Reno, Nevada at the Cynthia Lake Hospice Home. Born September 6, 1939 to Emil Becker and Mary Anita Roscoe in Garfield, New Jersey; she was raised in Denville, New Jersey as an only child.
Arlene's mother was a teacher, reading to her daily; she instilled a passion for education. Arlene's father worked in the steel industry, and after World War II, the family relocated to Southern California. Arlene attended a Catholic school, she then furthered her education at UC Santa Barbara. She would go on to earn a Master’s degree at Claremont Graduate University; she then received a Harvard Fellowship.
These opportunities opened doors to many world travel experiences, cultures and friendships over the decades; she would travel to more than 30 countries. Since the 1990s, she hosted many gourmet dinner parties at her Donner Lake home, celebrating friendships, intellectual conversation, laughter, and international & regional American cuisine.
Professionally, Arlene would begin her career as a parole agent during the Watts Riots, attaining experience and rank through the years, she would serve as a parole agent, counselor, then manager in Northern California institutions, and would eventually be appointed as the head of the Parole Division for the State of California. She resided in both Sacramento and Folsom, CA during her professional career.
Upon retirement from the State of California, Arlene opened a temporary employment agency franchise empowering others and building confidence. Considering retirement, she bought a beautiful, lake front home on Donner Lake, Truckee, CA where she lived since the 1990s until late 2024.
Arlene will be remembered for her intellect and wisdom, her strong Democratic passion for social justice & local elections, creating a sense of curiosity & instilling a passion for education in mentoring others, making a difference in lives and causes. More importantly, she will be missed as a dear friend to many, and as an amazing woman who gave generously of her time and resources. She belonged to many charitable organizations and boards. Close to her heart was her passion for animal welfare, fostering kitten litters from the local humane society. Among the many charities she supported, they included The Eddy House, AAUW, Queen of Hearts and the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and Democratic causes.
In honor of Arlene, raise a glass, create a gourmet masterpiece, volunteer, adopt a shelter animal, mentor others, donate to a favorite charity. She leaves a legacy impacting many.
In accordance of Arlene's wishes, she will be interred next to her parents at the Lakeside Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Folsom, CA, on June 30, 2026 at noon. Preceding her in death were her parents, and a close cousin, Paul Gregario. She is survived by a dear cousin Geraldine Rogers of New Jersey and extended relations.
